I’ve done Whole30 enough to know that cheese is BY FAR the food group I miss most (… and bread. And ice cream. And sweetness in my coffee. But mostly cheese… ).
*Stares into the distance and thinks about cheese*
I’ve found a couple staples that can help me in my time of chee-d. Oops, I mean “need.”
Here are a couple of our favorite dairy-free cheese alternatives. Are you doing Whole30? Do you eat a vegan diet? Are you sensitive/allergic to dairy? This crumbly “cheese” with the texture of a parmesan or cotija and this creamy “cream cheese” may not have you fooled. (I’m not going to lie… they aren’t actual cheese.) But they are Pretty. Darn. Close. When Austin bit into this mexican street corn and I asked him “How is it?”, he answered “Delicious! It’s so cheesy!”. Got him…
Try the “parmesan” sprinkled onto this Mexican Street Corn or as a topping on a bowl creamy tomato soup or zoodles with pesto. Stir in some chives with the “cream cheese” and spread it on a bagel or stuff it up in jalapeños and wrap in bacon to make these delicious Jalapeño Poppers. Yum-o!
*Note that both recipes call for nutritional yeast. This is almost impossible to find at a traditional grocery store, but is vital to giving that cheesy flavor! You can find it at most health food stores. I usually buy mine here. Because free 2-day shipping and cheapest for the amount. What did I do before Amazon Prime?*
